The Kabiye people are by vocation famers They consider themselves a poor but vigorous people. Because of their poverty there exists a kind of hopelessness among many young Kabiyes. In an attempt to find a better life, many have joined the security forces or have taken other government jobs.
The Kabiye have proven to be open to the gospel and many churches have sprung up among them. Some things that have prevented greater progress of the gospel among them are the pressure from families to adhere to traditional beliefs and practices, and the dominance of the more popular, entrenched "Christian" denominations that permit a pagan life-style of low morals and idolatry. There is much reason for hope in the transformation of the Kabiye people through their faith in Christ.
